College of Advanced Materials and

Nanotechnologies (CAMN)

College of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnologies occupies the leading positions in Russia in training highest qualification staff in the field of material science, as well as procedures and methods of their property management.

The Materials Science and Engineering is one of the most demanded directions in specialist training in the world.

The research work of the College is carried out in a broad circle of problems in the field of materials science, physics,  physical chemistry, technology of the semiconductor production, physics of dielectrics. We maintain relations with country’s leading enterprises, foreign companies, home and foreign research and educational centers.

The College of advanced materials and nanotechnologies was founded within the framework of the modernization of the university’s organizational structure carried out in 2010. Two departments with most profound theoretical training of students served as its base: physico-chemical and department of semi-conducting materials and devices. The main directions of the College’s scientific activity comply with the priority directions in science and technology as approved by the RF Government. Students take an active part in investigations for developing promising materials and devices.

CAMN comprises 9 issuing chairs: "High Temperature Processes, Materials and Diamonds", "Metal Protection and Surface Engineering", "Materials Science of Semi-conductors and Dielectrics", "Physical Metallurgy and Physics of Strength",  "Electronics and Physics of Semiconductors", "Theoretical Physics and quantum technologies", "Technology of Electronics Materials", "Physical materials science, Physical Chemistry".

In addition  to the chairs, the scientific work is concentrated in 8 research laboratories and educational and scientific centers. The laboratories and centers of the College of physical chemistry of materials have at their disposal the latest generation equipment of world leading companies to study the elemental and chemical composition, structure, electrophysical and electrooptical properties at the atomic and electron level. The unique equipment is used in the interests of the educational process that enables students mastering the most advanced research technologies.

CAMN features a profound study of fundamental sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science and others, sound theoretical and practical background in the field of studying and developing new materials on the base of metals, ceramics, semi-conducting materials and dielectrics, knowledge in the field of information technologies, programming, mathematical simulation. The curriculum plans in all the majors comprise the disciplines of economics and business, law, foreign languages. All that enables our graduates to successfully work in various spheres of production and business, easily adjusting to new spheres of activity. The level of their knowledge allows them occupying highly paid positions in the field of the industrial and commercial management, in the largest research, scientific-production centers and companies.

Students well advanced and showing themselves in the scientific activity can study and have a period of probation free of charge in the Freiberg Mining Academy (Germany), Rhein-Westfalen Higher Technical school  (Germany), Udine University (Italy), Sheffield University (England), Northern Iowa University (USA) and in the National Polytechnical institute of Lorraine (France). An extra language training is arranged for these students. After the study completion two diplomas can be received: MISiS diploma and foreign university diploma.
