MISIS at a glance  

 
  1. 7 Colleges including 57 chairs, 16 scientific research laboratories, and 18 scientific educational centers;
  2. 4 College branches in Elektrostahl (Moscow region), Stariy Oskol (Belgorod region), Novotroitsk (Orenburg region), and Vyksa (Nizhnii-Novgorod region);
  3. informative-consulting centers in Tula, Cherepovets, Izhevsk, Nizhnii Tagil, Kulebaki, Ryazan, Kolchugino, Podolsk, and Tver;
  4. 206 professors, Doctors of Science, 704 Associate Professors and Doctors of Philosophy, 327 researchers; 4 members of the Academy and members of the Russian Academy of Science (RAS), 9 members of various foreign academies, 49 members of social academies of Russia;
  5. about 14, 000 undergraduate students and over 700 post-graduate students;
  6. 46 undergraduate and graduate programs leading to a bachelor’s or master’s degrees plus programs for practicing engineers;
  7. training of highly competent scientific and pedagogical specialists, i.e. Doctors of Science in 19 fields of science and Doctors of Philosophy in 30 fields of science;
  8. over 500 scientific research projects are yearly carried out ;
  9. upwards of 300 projects are completed by request of leading industrial customers;
  10. MISIS cooperates on academic and research levels with more than 80 universities, research centers and industrial companies of 40 countries. MISIS carries out annually various research projects in accordance with contracts signed with foreign major industrial customers. Our university has numerous ties with universities abroad and maintains international academic exchange programs with these universities.
  11. MISIS scientific technical library, which occupies approximately 1, 500 sq. meters, comprises over 1, 200 thousand books, journals and other print materials making one of the largest university libraries in Moscow;
  12. annually there come out TU editions of “MISIS” and “UCHOBA” making up over 60 titles of textbooks, supplementary aid booklets and up to 30 scientific monographs total;
  13. the list of leading journals on the metallurgical industry in Russia published by the University press includes: “Russian journal of ferrous metals”   
Today MISIS is the top body of the Council for Materials Science and Metallurgy attached to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation
  1. MISIS is actively involved and plays a leading role in the realization of the inter-institutional technical sub-program “Advanced Materials” carried out within the scope of the program called “Scientific Research in Priority Directions of Science and Technology”.  Another project that MISA is currently involved in as part of the sub-program “Scientific and Methodological Support of Higher Education” is “Inter-institutional Scientific Research Centers”.
  2. MISIS received a grant on the competitive merit to establish the Center for Research in the field of metallurgy;
  3. MISIS is the leading institution in the Association for Higher Metallurgical Association established by CIS University;
  4. MISIS enjoys the status of the Russian Coordination Center of Surface Engineering within the framework of the European scientific program “Eureka”;
  5. MISIS represents Russian state scientific association “Termosintez”;
  6. MISIS periodically organizes student scientific research competitions in the field of metallurgy and materials science;
  7. MISIS presides over the Informational Analytical Academic Center of Moscow called “Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies” functioning under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of  Science of the Russian Federation.
